The Supreme Court’s verdict is in: the United States is officially a plutocracy. The only question now is: what do the owners of America want to do with it? Their propagandists provide the answers, with consistent campaigns on climate change, healthcare, and the meaning of the Constitution all pointing clearly to a bastardized and demented shell of a country.
American conservatives have surprised and disappointed many observers by demonizing Nelson Mandela as a communist. But that aspect of Mandela’s past is far less relevant to the modern world than his identification of other regimes that practice the apartheid he helped end. It is no coincidence that this aspect of his legacy is being carefully avoided.
For conservative commentator Cal Thomas, the rowdy behavior of Thanksgiving shoppers bespeaks cultural decline. Curiously, he did not draw the same conclusion from the antics of Wall Street traders. Greed, it would seem, is only reprehensible among the lower classes.
Climate change denial may ultimately be the most evil form of propaganda ever deployed. Exploiting the ignorance of the ill-informed, it encourages the human race to destroy itself and the rest of nature. And all this for a few dollars more.
In response to Israel’s growing concerns about a diplomatic solution for Syria’s chemical weapons, their faithful propagandist Cal Thomas has had to contradict almost everything he just told us.
Forget Syria. America’s religious fundamentalists and the Israelis who exploit them want a war with Iran. And just as with Iraq, Cal Thomas is the man to sell it.
Cal Thomas’s latest exercise in fear-mongering seeks to exploit the murder of a British soldier in London for the purpose of demonizing Islam. Conveniently overlooked, as always, is the massive pool of blood spilled by America and its supposedly civilized Western allies.
Rick Scott’s apparently surprising decision to endorse the expansion of Medicaid under Obamacare has left Tea Party members aghast. But they have received the kleptocracy that they deserve.
Cal Thomas escalates the plutocracy’s whining about tax fairness to the ultimate absurdity of calling for a tax revolt. The reality, however, is that the revolt has already been staged, and the plutocrats have already won.
As part of the Republican machine, Cal Thomas has to grit his teeth and defend Mitt Romney as well as he can. Distracting us from Romney’s tax returns, he ignores the ugly reality of how Romney really made his money. But where do Thomas’s loyalties really lie?
As if Todd Akin’s comments on “legitimate rape” weren’t bad enough, Cal Thomas’s attempt to defend Akin is even worse. The religious right, it would seem, is right even when it is obviously wrong.
Now converted to the Romney cause, Cal Thomas argues that Americans don’t need government to succeed. Common sense is the latest victim in his relentless campaign on behalf of the plutocracy.
Cal Thomas’s reaction to Chief Justice Roberts’ opinion on Obamacare typifies the hypocrisy of the right on the proper role of the Court. Constantly railing against judicial activism, they are outraged by an example of restraint. Or, at least, they pretend to be.
The Leesburg Daily Commercial brings us yet more hypocrisy from Cal Thomas, who this time ignores the Biblical Commandment against adultery in his desperation to elevate Newt Gingrich above Mitt Romney in the race for the G.O.P. nomination. Delicious.
By demonizing illegal immigrants, the right-wing distracts ordinary Americans from the real causes of the country’s woes. And in attacking the 14th Amendment, the right exposes the utter hypocrisy of its professed adherence to strict construction of the Constitution.
Once again, the Leesburg Daily Commercial provides Cal Thomas with a platform to spew his lies about the character of the Occupy movement. His deceptions advance the interests of the corporate oligarchy at the expense of intellectual integrity and the general welfare.
